WELL DESIGNED : MOTHER-TONGUE BOOKS
Books Are Magic
BOOKS IN MOTHER TONGUES have the power not only to make it easier to teach children to read and write , but they also have a lasting impact on lifelong learning . Established in 2013 as a global nonprofit , NABU has been working to advance global literacy and digital equity by publishing culturally relevant , accessible story collections in a wide range of mother tongues — Haitian Creole , Tagalog , and Swahili among the 17 languages to date — that can be downloaded via mobile app . These books are written and illustrated by authors and artists who are trained within the NABU model . To increase access , NABU and HP have partnered to open creative labs in Rwanda ( 2022 ) and Miami for the Haitian diaspora ( 2023 ), with a third to launch in the Philippines later this year . These labs feature HP technology , including touchscreen laptops , stylus pens , and other devices that help writers and illustrators bring their visions to life and bring books to people where they are . Here are just a few of their colorful covers .
